Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools is located near Historic Williamsburg, Virginia. It is a joint school division serving both James City County and the City of Williamsburg. James City County is a growing, urbanizing community of 142 square miles with an estimated population of 78,800 and the City of Williamsburg is a small urban community of 9.2 square miles with an estimated population of 16,000.
The WJCC Public School system has approximately 11,800 students. At the present time, there are three (3) high schools with grades 9-12; four (4) middle schools consisting of grades 6-8, nine (9) elementary schools housing grades K-5 and a growing PreK program serving 400+ students.
The School Division provides a broad spectrum of general, special, gifted, career and technical education opportunities for approximately 11,800 students (including pre-kindergarten) between the ages of 3 and 21 at nine elementary schools, four middle schools, and three high schools. Williamsburg-James City County Schools employs over 2,000 professional and operational employees and the 2024-2025 Operating Budget is $180,780,000.
