Howard-Winneshiek Community School District (Howard-Winn) is located in rural NE Iowa and spans over 426 square miles, servicing 1,100 students. Collaborating with business and industry, elected officials and higher education, we partner to envision and make operational a new structure of learning grounded in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The mission is to prepare and empower our students to think creatively, serve, contribute and succeed locally and globally continues to be evident in the classrooms and halls of the District to help students achieve beyond their expectations. Beginning in the Fall of 2013, all students were issued an iPad for all K-6 students and MacBook Air to grades 7-12. The District goal is to embed technology seamlessly into instruction and use social media to break down classroom silos, connecting learners globally. Recently the Board reinforced its commitment to this goal by authorizing the expenditure required to refurbish and upgrade those technologies in 2017.
Located in Northeast Iowa, Howard-Winneshiek Community School District is composed of the communities of Chester, Cresco, Elma, Lime Springs and Ridgeway, coming together to create and sustain one of the highest achieving school districts in Iowa. Community support and recreational opportunities, along with strong family values, define the region. Whether coming together to build a community fitness center, complete with indoor swimming pool, or attending a benefit for a neighbor in need, the people of the area are always showing how much they care. And in their spare time they have ample recreational opportunities. Bike trails, snowmobile trails, cross country skiing trails, the Upper Iowa River, the Turkey River, the Mighty Howard County Fair, golf courses in both Cresco and Elma, an outdoor pool in Lime Springs, Historic Lidtke Mill, disc golf course, campgrounds and so much more are waiting for you.
